A head-on collision on State Route 73 claimed the life of a 71-year-old man and left a child and two others seriously injured Thursday evening in Scioto County.
The crash happened around 6:10 p.m. on July 17, near milepost 19 in Rush Township. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 48-year-old Chandra M. Darling of Garrison, Kentucky was driving eastbound when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle driven by Mary A. Talbert, 36, of McDermott.
Darling’s vehicle was carrying two passengers: a juvenile in the back seat and Tommy R. Potter, 71, in the front passenger seat. Potter was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
The child and Darling both suffered serious injuries and were transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment. Talbert, the driver of the second vehicle, also sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to SOMC.
Emergency crews from the Rush Township Volunteer Fire Department, Scioto Squad 2, Portsmouth Ambulance, and the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene, along with the Scioto County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. No additional information has been released at this time.
