Law Enforcement and the coroner are investigating the death of a 34-year-old man who worked at a rehab center. The man’s roommate called 911 around 1 am, after he discovered his dead in his room.
The roommate told Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies that he became suspicious when he didn’t hear his roomie moving around or going to the restroom for several hours. He also noticed his friend hadn’t been on social media for six hours.
The man said he put his young daughter to bed before checking on his roommate and found him cold to the touch.
When EMS and officers arrived at the home, they noticed a white powdery substance in the man’s nostril, as well as several medicine bottles around the room. The roommate told first responders his friend was a heavy drinker, and it wasn’t uncommon for him to stay in his room all weekend with an occasional restroom break. He also told officers that he feared that his friend might be using drugs. However, the two worked together at a rehab center, and he thought his friend would have told him if he was.
During the course of the investigation, officers located drug paraphernalia, including a straw with a white residue in it. Officers also took two cell phones and other items as evidence.
Officers contacted the Lawrence County Coroner, who arranged for a local funeral home to pick up the deceased.
