Hot Pursuit – Fleeing Truck Driver Slams Semi Into Cruisers

Officers from OSP, PPD, and the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office took part in the pursuit of a runaway truck pulling a trailer on Tuesday afternoon.

The call came in around 4 pm, reporting that OSP troopers were chasing the vehicle on St. Rte 522. A few minutes later, the truck hit a Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputy’s cruiser.

The truck was spotted near the Patriot Travel Center headed towards Rt. 52 a few moments later and going the wrong way down the highway until the driver crossed the median and started going in the right direction.

PPD officers joined in the chase to deploy stop sticks, and the driver was spotted taking the Center Street exit towards Wheelersburg.

The driver kept speeds fairly low, not going much over 20 miles during the incident. When officers got close to him in the Wheelersburg area, he hit a second cruiser and then took off on foot.

Law enforcement gave chase and deployed a taser to take the man into custody. Officers noted there was also a female passenger in the vehicle. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Ohio State Patrol requested an ambulance to check the man for a possible injury. He was transported to the hospital. Officers also located a black bag the suspect tossed out of the vehicle during the chase.
