Big news for the Columbia and for a local country star. Hometown singer-songwriter Rick Ferrell, who wrote the most-played radio song for a decade 2000 to 2010, “Something Like That,” performed by Tim McGraw, is at it again.
Ferrell’s song, “All in The Same Boat,” performed by Nashville’s Chris Turner and Country rapper, Smo from A&E’s reality series “Big Smo,” will be released on November 4. The song is intended to be an anthem of unity just as we all prepare to go to the polls on November 8.
“River-side Appalachians know all about being in the same boat literally and figuratively,” Rick Ferrell said. “But now, with inflation, gas prices, and extreme hikes in the cost of living, we are ‘All In The Same Boat.'”
Ferrell said he is impressed with the dedication Turner has given to the production of this piece and with the quality of this single.
“As a Marine Corps veteran, I want to ensure this song reaches its full potential,” Chris Turner said. “The message needs to be heard.”
Turner said we are “All in The Same Boat,” like Ferrell wrote in the song. “We need to come together, grab the buckets and bail out the water,” Turner said. “And the things in the boat dragging us down as Americans.”
“‘All in the same boat is the homegrown anthem for all the kinfolk like us that know how to survive and thrive during hard times.” said Smo, formerly known as ‘Big Smo.’ This fun two-steppin’ tune reminds us to kick back and have a good time with great vibes. Smo said that no matter the walk of life, this song speaks to every American because “After all. We are ‘All in the same boat. “
As if “All in The Same Boat” enough, Ferrell’s “Home For The Weekend” video aired on The Country Network (TCN) on October 31.
Ferrell will be taking the stage at a Portsmouth landmark soon thanks to the efforts of another Portsmouth native. Journalist and media specialist MJ Brickey says the Columbia Music Arena, formerly the historic Columbia Theater, will host a show featuring Ferrell, Turner, and Smo in early 2023. “My production company Meta MoJo will be directing entertainment for the venue and a few other surprises soon to be announced.”
Brickey said she’ll announce more details soon about future events at the Columbia Music Arena. “But right now, I am excited to bring Turner and Smo for the first time to the Columbia stage,” Brickey said. “And I am just excited and super proud to bring Ferrell back again.”
“I am looking forward to this show,” Ferrell said. “It is not often you get to see the writers and performers together in the same place.”
