Portsmouth police were called to Sterling Avenue late at night after a resident said a neighbor may have pulled a gun while walking past the property.
The call came in around 11:30 p.m.
According to the report, the resident said his dog had jumped the fence but was still on the property and moving toward Valley Street when a man walked by on the sidewalk.
The resident told police the man pulled what he believed was some kind of handgun. However, he said the weapon was not pointed directly at him.
The resident said he was still in the background behind the dog and was concerned because he believed the man may have been intoxicated.
The man had already left the area by the time officers were contacted. The resident said he got into a vehicle with several other people. The vehicle was described only as possibly having multicolored doors.
No direct threat was reported, and the resident did not want to file a formal report. He asked police to document the incident for informational purposes.
Officers advised the resident that if the man returned, he should lock his doors and call police.
