A bizarre argument over a vape and an infant allegedly spiraled into violence, shattered glass, and a hospital trip after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance connected to a fast-food parking lot.
According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched after a woman reported she had been assaulted earlier in the evening following an argument with her boyfriend.
When deputies arrived, they observed visible injuries to the woman’s nose.
The woman told investigators the confrontation began while the couple was at a Dollar General with their baby.
According to her written statement, the man suddenly became enraged because he believed the infant had struck or grabbed her vape device.
But the woman insisted the accusation made no sense because she had taken the vape inside the store with her.
She told deputies the man allegedly:
- began screaming at her
- threw the vape at her windshield
- and damaged the vehicle during the argument
The woman said she then attempted to drive him home to calm the situation.
But things allegedly escalated again once they arrived.
According to the report, as she attempted to leave the driveway, the man allegedly walked to the driver’s side window and punched her in the face.
EMS later transported the woman to King’s Daughters Medical Center for treatment.
Deputies then attempted to locate the suspect at a nearby residence.
Family members reportedly told investigators they had not seen him since earlier in the day. Deputies were allowed to search part of the home but were ultimately denied access to the upper floor of the residence.
The suspect was not located at the time of the report.
