It was a wild week for deputies who answered calls ranging from a domestic brawl in a store parking lot to a tag-switching theft spree just down the road.
“’Til Death — or the Parking Lot — Do Us Part”
Deputies responded to a call about a heated altercation between a newlywed couple that got way out of hand. Witnesses said the pair had been arguing in the parking lot when the husband allegedly struck his wife — and then tried to hit her with a black Jeep as she ran for safety.
The couple had reportedly just left a recovery program and admitted they’d been drinking. The woman told officers the two had tied the knot only a day earlier but began fighting that same night at a local motel, where her husband allegedly damaged the room and broke her phone.
Several witnesses described the shocking scene in the lot — a man striking the woman, then gunning his engine and attempting to run her over as she screamed for help.
A few hours later, officers were called back to the area on reports of a man passed out behind the wheel. They found the same suspect asleep inside a vehicle matching the description from the earlier assault. He was arrested and booked into the Lawrence County Jail on charges of domestic violence and disorderly conduct by intoxication.
Tag-Swappers & Checkout Chaos
In a separate investigation, store security called deputies after catching two suspects allegedly working a tag-switching scheme inside a retail giant.
The first suspect, Anthony Riffle, was arrested after officers say he concealed tools, clothing, and gloves — even putting some on — before walking out without paying. When stopped, he reportedly told deputies, “Just take the stuff back.” He was booked for theft.
Meanwhile, the second suspect, Makayla Curtis, was spotted at self-checkout failing to scan items and swapping barcodes to make expensive products ring up cheap. When approached by deputies, she resisted arrest and tried to push past them but was quickly restrained.
Curtis allegedly gave a false name at first but later admitted her real identity. She was booked into the Lawrence County Jail on charges of theft, falsification, and resisting arrest.
