A bizarre series of events that began with a woman allegedly wandering the neighborhood in a Scooby-Doo mask ended with deputies using a Taser and making an arrest.
Deputies were dispatched after residents reported a woman walking up and down the street yelling, banging on trash cans, kicking doors and rummaging through a vehicle that didn’t belong to her.
When officers arrived, they found a woman sitting inside a neighbor’s SUV with both front doors standing open.
According to the report, the woman immediately offered an unusual explanation for her actions.
She allegedly told deputies that her father had called her and informed her there was a hostage situation at the residence.
The woman reportedly claimed she had responded to help but didn’t have the proper equipment with her.
Deputies noted that she removed items from her pockets and threw them back into the vehicle while explaining the situation.
As officers attempted to determine what was actually happening, a state trooper arrived to assist.
The woman then allegedly announced she was going home and began walking away.
While one officer stayed with her, deputies spoke with the homeowners.
What they described sounded like the latest chapter in an ongoing neighborhood saga.
According to the family, the same woman had been seen days earlier walking up and down the road wearing a Scooby-Doo mask while staring at their home.
The homeowners said the behavior made them uneasy but she eventually left.
This time was different.
The couple told deputies they watched the woman opening vehicle doors, going through their SUV and kicking the front door of their home.
Because they have a young child living in the residence, they feared the situation could escalate if the door had been unlocked.
The family told deputies they were frightened enough that they did not want to take any chances.
After gathering statements, deputies informed the woman she was being placed under arrest.
According to the report, she disagreed.
Strongly.
Deputies say she repeatedly refused commands to place her hands on a patrol vehicle and attempted to walk away.
At one point she allegedly threw additional items from her pockets onto the ground.
Officers report that they warned her multiple times before attempting to use a Taser.
The situation became more dramatic when what was intended as a drive-stun reportedly resulted in a Taser cartridge being discharged into her shoulder.
The woman fell to the ground and was eventually taken into custody after complying with commands.
She was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without further incident.
Jail staff were asked to have her medically evaluated.
According to the deputy, this was not the first unusual call involving the woman.
The report notes law enforcement has responded to multiple prior complaints involving her allegedly entering homes and getting into vehicles belonging to other people.
In those previous incidents, residents reportedly told officers they believed she had stopped taking prescribed medication.
