A man accused of threatening family members with a knife during a chaotic domestic disturbance was eventually found hiding underneath a truck after deputies searched the area.
And according to dispatch records…
the situation unfolding inside the home sounded terrifying.
911 callers reportedly told dispatchers:
- a man had a knife to a woman’s throat
- threats were being made to “slash” someone if police were called
- a baby could be heard crying in the background
- and screaming and cursing continued throughout the incident
By the time deputies arrived, however, the suspect had already fled.
According to the report, deputies responding to the scene initially encountered family members who appeared reluctant to fully explain what had happened.
At first, those involved reportedly insisted:
- no one had been threatened
- no knife had been involved
- and nothing physical had happened
But deputies became suspicious because the statements did not match the frantic information relayed during the 911 call.
After separating witnesses and speaking privately, investigators say the story changed dramatically.
According to the report, the suspect had allegedly:
- held a knife to his own throat
- threatened self-harm
- screamed and yelled while intoxicated
- punctured the tires on his own vehicle
- taken a phone to stop someone from calling police
- and threatened to destroy another phone if deputies were contacted
One witness also told deputies she watched the man physically drag another woman out of a truck during the incident.
Investigators say the entire confrontation reportedly began after family members took away the suspect’s keys because he had allegedly been drinking moonshine and was attempting to drive.
Suspect Found Hiding Under Truck
While deputies continued investigating the scene, officers searched the surrounding area for the suspect.
According to the report, a sergeant eventually located him hiding underneath a truck on a nearby street.
The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
Dispatch Notes Painted Picture of Escalating Chaos
The dispatch log attached to the report described an increasingly volatile scene as events unfolded in real time.
According to the CAD notes:
- screaming could be heard in the background
- the suspect was reportedly “very heated”
- callers repeatedly sounded frightened
- and dispatchers lost contact with the original caller at one point during the emergency
Deputies say one witness ultimately agreed to provide a written statement, while another initially declined to cooperate or pursue charges.
However, because of the seriousness of the allegations, investigators noted charges would still move forward despite hesitation from those involved.
Why Domestic Calls Become So Dangerous
Law enforcement officials routinely describe domestic violence calls as some of the most unpredictable and dangerous situations officers face.
That danger increases dramatically when:
- alcohol is involved
- weapons are present
- emotions are escalating
- and children are nearby
In this case, dispatchers reported hearing a baby crying while threats involving a knife were allegedly being made in the background.
And by the end of the night…
deputies say the suspect had gone from threatening people inside the home to hiding underneath a truck trying to avoid arrest.
